Over 20,000 people have visited the exhibitions dedicated to the Soviet deportations, organized in Chisinau and Balti. The exhibitions presented documents, photographs, and testimonies about the victims of the Soviet regime’s repressions and were organized in the context of the 85th anniversary of the first Stalinist deportations from Bessarabia, reports IPN.
In Chisinau, the exhibition was visited by approximately 17,500 people, and in Balti, where it was organized for the first time, around 3 thousand visitors came.
Among the topics presented were the Great Terror in the Moldavian ASSR from 1937-1938, the deportations of 1941 and 1949, as well as the repressions from 1953-1989. A separate section was dedicated to the famine of 1946-1947, one of the most severe tragedies that affected the population of the current territory of the Republic of Moldova during the Soviet period.
Visitors had the opportunity to learn more about the historical context of the events and about the destinies of the individuals presented in the exhibition, with the help of guides.
The program also included cultural activities, among which the screening of the film “The Ravens Do Not Share Their Prey” and the performance “1946” by the “Luceafarul” Republican Theater.
The exhibitions were organized by the Ministry of Culture and the National Archives Agency, in collaboration with public institutions, organizations of former deportees and museums.
