The Council of the European Union has approved the amendment of the Plan for Ukraine, a document that establishes the necessary reforms for accessing financing through the “Ukraine Facility” mechanism. The update also provides for an additional funding of 8.3 billion euros for the year 2026, granted through the Ukraine support loan, reports IPN.

According to a press release from the EU Council, the changes reflect the agreement on additional funding agreed upon by the European Parliament and Council in February. In order to benefit from the funds, Kiev must continue implementing the committed reforms, including in the area of the rule of law and combating corruption.

Launched in March 2024, the “Ukraine Facility” mechanism provides over 50 billion euros in the form of grants and loans to support the recovery, reconstruction and modernization of Ukraine during the 2024-2027 period.

So far, the European Union has transferred approximately 6 billion euros to Ukraine through bridge financing, 1.89 billion euros in advances, and seven other tranches, totaling approximately 21.6 billion euros.

The EU Council’s decision comes after the approval of new financial support instruments for Ukraine, intended to ensure the continuity of medium-term financing.

The President of the People’s Assembly of Gagauzia, Valentin Gaidarji, is calling for the involvement of the European Union, the OSCE and the Council of Europe in the dispute between the authorities in Comrat and Chisinau. The appeal was made during a press conference held in front of the Parliament, IPN reports.

According to Gaidarji, the Constitutional Court’s decision of July 9 and the proposed amendments to the electoral legislation would affect the status of the Gagauzia Autonomous Region. He called for an independent assessment of these measures and the sending of monitoring missions by the Council of Europe and the OSCE to the region.

At the same time, the President of the People’s Assembly announced that he would send the Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration, Cristina Gherasimov, an official notification regarding the situation in Gagauzia, accompanied by documents and materials he considers relevant. He asked her to promote, in the dialogue with the central authorities, compliance with the European principles of dialogue and “unity in diversity”.

The Parliament is scheduled to consider today the draft amendment to the Electoral Code, which provides for new rules regarding the organization of elections in the Gagauzia Autonomous Region and the functioning of the electoral bodies in the region.

Authorities in Chisinau have previously rejected Comrat’s accusations. Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu said the amendments aim to establish a unified legal framework for all elections in the Republic of Moldova.
