The leader of the Party of Socialists (PSRM) Igor Dodon said the Constitutional Court’s judgment by which President Maia Sandu’s decree to nominate Natalia Gavrilița for premiership again was declared unconstitutional was absolutely predictable. Dodon demands that Maia Sandu should immediately issue a new decree to nominate a legal candidate for Prime Minister, namely Mariana Durleșteanu, who was proposed by a legally formed parliamentary majority, IPN reports.

“I do not have any political satisfaction following the CC’s decision. Neither I, nor my colleagues from the PSRM gained something from this decision. It is not intended to ensure political satisfaction, but comes to stop the President’s departure from the Constitution after she showed that she uses again double standards and the notion of rule of law is valid for each citizen except the President, who places herself above the country’s Constitution,” Igor Dodon posted on Facebook. He warns President Maia Sandu that she lives in a parliamentary republic and does not play the decisive role and cannot annul the Parliament’s role in this state.

The PSRM issued a press release, saying that it took note of the CC’s judgment. “We call on all the political players to continue the civilized dialogue so as to identify the optimal solution and overcome the political and institutional crisis. The PSRM continues to be open to discussions and will do its best to bring the crisis to an end and will focus on real solutions expected by the people. The politicians should not sell illusions, but should propose measures for improving the people’s life,” said the party.

The Constitutional Court (CC) held that for Article 98, par. 1 of the Constitution to be obeyed, the parliamentary groups and the President of the Republic of Moldova must hold new consultations.
