The graduates of the State University of Medicine and Pharmacy “Nicolae Testemitanu” of Chisinau on June 16 took the Hippocratic Oath. According to the University’s rector Ion Ababii, by this oath the community of doctors undertakes to take care of the health of patients, regardless of nationality, religious and political beliefs or social status. The festivity was held at the National Palace “Nicolae Sulac” in Chisinau, IPN reports.
“Today you set off on a path with great responsibilities, but also with enormous satisfaction generated by the wish to win a victory over disease, suffering and death. The suffering persons should not have reasons to question our honesty and readiness to help them unconditionally,” stated Ion Ababii.
Attending the event, Prime Minister Pavel Filip encouraged the graduates to have confidence in the own forces, noting that what they learned until now should stimulate them to continuously develop professionally. “From my own experience, I can tell you that there are no miracles in this life and you can obtain what you want only by action and work,” stated the Premier.
Minster of Health Ruxanda Glavan said the profession of doctor implies a lot of responsibilities. “We know the problems faced by doctors, especially the young specialists. That’s why in 2017 we substantially increased the allowance for physicians who will work in rural areas. I call on you to return to your native places to work there. Our villages need you,” stated the minister.
Graduate Dumitru Iovu said he is oscillating between hematology and rheumatology and will decide the area in which he will work in autumn. He does not want to leave the country, but the young people often do it not only because of salaries, but also because of the post-university training and working conditions.
Maria Nani said she will definitely remain in Moldova and will do her best to practice medicine with dignity and responsibility.
For Ahmad, Moldova became a second home. He will return to his native country Israel to practice there and intends to specialize in pediatrics. He said that if the salaries in Moldova had been larger, he would have remained to work here.
A number of 967 young people have graduated from the State University of Medicine and Pharmacy “Nicolae Testemitanu” this year. Of these, more than 280 are foreigners.
