Iuliana Cantaragiu has resigned from the post of Minister of Environment, announced Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilița.

“Today I accepted the resignation of the Minister of the Environment Iuliana Cantaragiu. I thanked her for her work and dedication in her one year in office, during which the way environmental affairs are managed has been transformed to the core. A new ministry, reformed and reset agencies, new laws and new protected areas, including the Lower Nistru National Park, but also projects aimed at improving the lives of Moldovans – the project that prevents the unjustified increase in the price of firewood, the financing of sewage treatment plants, the start of the national waste management system – all of which have as final beneficiaries every citizen of the Republic of Moldova – are just a few of Iuliana Cantaragiu’s achievements”, the prime minister wrote on her Facebook account.

Iuliana Cantaragiu had been part of the Gavrilița Cabinet since August 2021. She is an expert in the field of environmental protection and the circular economy, with over 20 years of experience in the civil society sector. She was deputy director of the National Environmental Center NGO, and in 2020 she worked as an environmental specialist at the Public Services Agency, within the World Bank-funded project “Land Registration, Evaluation and Local Taxation”. She was state secretary in the Ministry of Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment in the Sandu Cabinet.

Romania declares a state of alert due to the decline in energy production

Romania has instituted a national state of alert for 30 days, due to the reduction in electricity production caused by prolonged drought and the decrease in the Danube’s flow. The decision was approved by the National Committee for Emergency Situations, reports IPN.

The interim Prime Minister of Romania, Ilie Bolojan, announced that the Government has allocated 7 million lei from the Budget Reserve Fund for intervention works in the Bala – Old Danube bifurcation area. The resources are necessary to maintain the water level that ensures the operation of Group 2 of the Cernavodă Nuclear Power Plant.

“Romania, along with other states in the region, is going through a difficult period from an energy standpoint,” declared Ilie Bolojan, specifying that the drought and the significant decrease in the Danube’s flow affect energy production.

The Romanian Prime Minister further stated that the authorities will continue the dialogue with the countries in the region to identify solutions for ensuring the necessary energy supply.

Ilie Bolojan urged public institutions, companies, and citizens to adopt a responsible energy consumption, emphasizing that reducing consumption contributes to maintaining the balance of the energy system.
