The state aims to gradually increase defense spending to 1% of the gross domestic product by 2030. The measure is included in the Implementation Program of the National Defense Strategy for the years 2026-2030, developed by the Ministry of Defense and proposed for government approval. Currently, allocations for this area constitute approximately 0.75% of the GDP, reports IPN.

The document provides for the strengthening of national resilience, the development of military capabilities, investments in strategic infrastructure and cybersecurity, as well as the expansion of cooperation with external partners. At the same time, the authorities aim to modernize the National Army.

In assessing the security environment, the project’s authors mention among the main threats to the Republic of Moldova the war of the Russian Federation against Ukraine and the risk of its extension to the country’s borders, the Russian military presence in the Transnistrian region, hybrid attacks, disinformation campaigns, and cyber attacks. Among the factors that can affect national security are also included the proliferation of weapons, climate change, and natural disasters.

The program also includes the modernization of military infrastructure, the development of an operational anti-aircraft defense system, equipping the National Army with equipment interoperable with that of partner states, and the reconstruction of the military camp in Bacioi.

Christians who follow the old-style church calendar celebrate the Holy Prophet Elijah on Sunday. He is known as a great miracle worker and bringer of rain during drought. In popular tradition, he is considered the protector of crops, reports IPN.

According to the Church, the Holy Prophet Elijah is one of the 16 great prophets of the Old Testament. He lived over 800 years before the Birth of the Savior Jesus Christ, during the reign of King Ahab, in the kingdom of Israel, with its capital in Samaria.

It is considered among the people as a bringer of rain, after he saved the people of Israel from death through prayer, when they were punished by God with three and a half years of drought. It is also said that, after Saint Elijah’s day, the heavy summer rains will begin.

Characteristic of the holiday is the fact that on this day fruits and vegetables are sanctified. Also, on Saint Elijah’s day, bee honey is blessed, after which it is eaten together with cucumbers, but this ritual is not a church one, but comes from the people.
