The ballot paper for the October 30 presidential elections will be shorter now that the candidate of the Party “Platform Dignity and Truth” Andrei Nastase withdrew from the race in favor of Maia Sandu, while Inna Popenko, of the Movement “Ravnopravie” (Shor Party), was excluded from the competition for violations of the electoral legislation. The decision to modify the ballot paper, which will include ten competitors instead of 12, was taken by the Central Election Commission on October 22, IPN reports.
There will be printed 3 132 427 ballots. Of these, more than 2 000 000 ballots will be in the Romanian language. The ballot paper will be 303 millimeters long, as opposed to 348 millimeters earlier.
The places of the candidates on the ballot also changed following the withdrawal of Andrei Nastase and the exclusion of Inna Popenko. The order on the ballot is the following: Marian Lupu, Mihai Ghimpu, Iurie Leanca, Dumitru Chubashenko, Maia Sandu, Igor Dodon, Silvia Radu, Maia Laguta, Ana Gutu, and Valeriu Giletski.
CEC president Alina Russu invited the representatives of the electoral competitors and journalists to the Central Publishing House at 9am on October 23 to attend the procedure of making the matrix of the ballot and the launch of the printing procedure.
