The International Women’s Club of Moldova (IWCM), which brings together mainly wives of diplomats working in Moldova, announces the fifth edition of the cultural event “A Night of Art”. Over 150 plastic artists from Moldova will exhibit their works for sale at Moldexpo on Friday, May 16. Traditionally, 25% of the proceeds will be donated to the Club’s Charity Fund. The proceeds and the money collected from selling tickets to the exhibition will be allocated as grant to NGOs for implementing social projects, Info-Prim Neo reports.
At a news conference on May 14, the Club’s co-president Marcie Gräfin Lambsdorff, the wife of the German Ambassador to Moldova, said that the number of artists that are participating in the event this year is by 50% larger than last year. The exhibited works – canvases, paintings in aquarelle, graphic works, sculptures from clay and stone, objects from bronze – cost minimum 45 USD. The works of art donated to the Club by sponsors will be also put up for sale. The proceeds will support IWCM charities. An entrance ticket costs 100 lei. Senior officials as well as the Mayor of Chisinau were invited to the event.
Kyra Buchko, the president of the organizational committee, said that 65 organizations have applied for grants this year. Only one third of them are from Chisinau. The sums asked for projects range from 10,000 to 50,000 lei. The four beneficiaries of funds that will be collected at the Night of Art this year will be announced on Friday night
According to the cited source, during ten years of the foundation, the International Women’s Club of Moldova has raised over 950,000 lei at charity events. The money was donated to over 60 Moldovan institutions. Over 4,000 USD was collected at the Night of Art last year. The Union of the Blind was the main beneficiary of the funds. The money went to purchase prostheses.
Our aim is not only to offer financial support to organizations, but also to establish long-lasting partnerships. When we cannot offer money, we ask the donors to help, Marcie Gräfin Lambsdorff said.
The International Women’s Club of Moldova was founded in 1997. Initially, the Club was formed solely of women that were not from Moldova. The Moldovan women began to join two years ago. To join, they must be recommended by a member of the Club that commits oneself to paying their membership dues for a year. Presently, the Club has 101 members from 25 countries. The diplomat women or the wives of diplomats from Russia do not form part of the club. The due is 275 lei a year.
