The Moldovans have democratically decided that the country’s future lies in Europe, and the European Union is here to support them every step of the way. The statement was made by the President of the European Council, António Costa, during a press conference held after the first bilateral summit between Moldova and the European Union, which took place on Friday in Chisinau, according to IPN.

António Costa mentioned that the accession process is not a simple exercise in ticking boxes, but requires sustained efforts and reforms that will bring tangible results for the citizens of the Republic of Moldova. According to the official, these efforts open up more opportunities for citizens and are beneficial for closer cooperation. These benefits are already visible on the ground, in people’s daily lives – through visa liberalization, the elimination of roaming charges, investments in infrastructure, and support for energy systems.

“During today’s discussions, we agreed to continue working to further accelerate the process of integrating the Republic of Moldova into the European Union’s single market, to stimulate growth, to support the country’s business environment, to create new jobs, and to improve living standards,” said the President of the European Council.

“We will remain partners in strengthening the security and resilience of the Republic of Moldova, as these are key aspects of our support,” says António Costa.

The summit was held behind closed doors. The European Union was represented at the event by the President of the European Council, António Costa, and the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen. The event was organized under the auspices of President Maia Sandu.

Among the main topics of the summit were Moldova’s accession process to the European Union, European support in the context of the war in Ukraine, and the implementation of the Growth Plan for Moldova. Other topics discussed included strengthening trade relations, cooperation in the field of security and defense, energy transition, digital transformation, and facilitating contacts between citizens.

The Balti Clinical Hospital has a new interim director, following the scandal related to the poor conditions in the institution’s food block. The position will be held by Ludmila Capcelea, who was introduced on Tuesday by the Minister of Health, Alexandru Gasnas, during a visit to the hospital. At the same time, the minister ordered a comprehensive inspection to assess the situation in the institution, reports IPN.

The arranged control will target the management of the institution, sanitary conditions, the organization of medical services, the use of public funds and the decision-making process.

Ludmila Capcelea was seconded from the Floresti District Hospital, where she held the position of director. According to the minister, her mandate is to stabilize the institution’s activity, improve administrative processes and place the patient at the center of decisions.

“The leadership role is not a privilege, it is a responsibility. In Balti, we are not just changing a director. We are starting a real reassessment and changing the way this hospital should operate”, said Alexandru Gasnas.

The appointment comes after the departure of Iurie Osoianu from the interim management of the Balti Clinical Hospital. The board of directors accepted his request to be relieved of his position in July, after images of the precarious conditions in the institution’s food block were publicly released. The interim position was later provided by Vladimir Pascaru.

Consumers of SA Apa-Canal Chisinau will pay more for water and sewage. The new tariffs approved by the National Agency for Energy Regulation provide for an increase of about one leu per cubic meter for both drinking water and sewage and wastewater treatment services. However, the approved rates are lower than those initially requested by the operator, reports IPN.

According to the decision approved by ANRE, the tariff for potable water supply will be 14.03 lei per cubic meter, compared to the current 12.99 lei.

For the public sewerage and wastewater treatment service, ANRE has approved an average rate of 7.40 lei per cubic meter, compared to 6.63 lei currently. For domestic consumers, the rate will increase to 6.63 lei per cubic meter, from 5.63 lei, while for non-domestic consumers it will remain unchanged – 10.16 lei per cubic meter.

Furthermore, ANRE has approved a rate of 7.66 lei for a cubic meter of technological water, 4.57 lei lower than the previously applied rate, and a rate of 6.27 lei for a cubic meter for the production and transportation of water for redistribution, an increase of 2.05 lei compared to the current rate.

The new rates will come into effect after the resolution is published in the Official Gazette and will replace the rates approved in March 2025.
