Over 50 countries were affected by the Zika virus, including 18 European countries. The disease is caused by a virus that is transmitted by mosquitos met mainly in the tropical regions, but the virus is spread by travelers. A case of infection with Zika was identified in the neighboring country Romania, IPN reports.

The National Health Protection Center said the period of incubation varies from 3 to 12 days of the bite. The main symptoms include eruptions that frequently appear on the face and all over the body, moderate fever, pain in the muscles and articulations, headaches and conjunctivitis. Most of the cases of disease are asymptomatic.

In most of the cases, the Zika symptoms in adults are light, but the virus can sometimes cause the Guillain-Barre syndrome that can lead to temporary paralysis. The Zika virus can spread from an infected mother to her fetus during pregnancy or at delivery. Zika can be transmitted from a man to his sex partners and also through blood and blood products.

There is for now no specific treatment or vaccine against the Zika virus. That’s why the persons who travel to countries with infection risks must use personal protection measures to prevent mosquito bites inside and outside places, especially during daytime, wear long pants and blouses and repellent substances and insect screens. It is recommended seeing a doctor if symptoms similar to those of Zika are experienced within three weeks of the return from an affected area.

National Army sappers neutralized 13 explosive objects in July

In July, the National Army’s sappers carried out 11 demining missions in several districts of the country and destroyed 13 explosive objects. One of the interventions aimed at neutralizing the Gheran-2 drone, detected in the village of Copanca, Causeni district, approximately 30 meters from a residential house, IPN reports.

According to the Ministry of Defense, the drone allegedly arrived on the territory of the Republic of Moldova following the massive attack launched by Russia on Ukraine on the night of July 13. The engineers of the “Codru” Engineering Battalion intervened to identify and neutralize the explosive object.

Another mission took place in the village of Serpeni, Anenii Noi district, where a local resident discovered ammunition during construction works. After checking the terrain, sappers identified and recovered 502 7.92 mm cartridges, left over from the Second World War. Similar interventions were carried out in localities in the districts of Ungheni, Stefan Voda, Straseni, Hancesti and Dubasari.

The Ministry of Defense reminds that discovered explosive objects should not be touched or moved. Citizens are urged to immediately notify the 112 Service or local authorities and to avoid any intervention with the ammunition.

Firefighters have extinguished 41 vegetation fires in the last 24 hours. According to the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations, the largest outbreaks were recorded in the Gagauzia Autonomous Region, Soroca, Drochia and Stefan Voda districts, IPN reports.

The most extensive fire occurred in the village of Dezghingea, Comrat municipality, where the flames destroyed approximately 10 hectares of dry vegetation. Other large outbreaks were recorded in the village of Racovat in Soroca district and in the village of Antoneuca in Drochia district, where approximately four hectares burned each, as well as in the village of Talmaza in Stefan Voda district, where the fire affected approximately two hectares.

IGSU urges citizens to avoid using open fire near dry vegetation, agricultural crops, forests and forest plantations. Parents are asked to supervise children and not allow them to play with fire sources. In the event of a fire, people are urged to call the 112 service and communicate the exact location of the fire.

A yellow fire danger code is in effect throughout the country until August 7. The warning was extended due to high temperatures and a lack of precipitation.
