Six persons, among who is an employee of the Border Police, were arrested for illegal migration. According to the Prosecutor’s Office for Organized Crime and Special Cases, these organized the illegal transportation of citizens from Ukraine to Moldova for sums varying between US$4,000 and US$11,000, IPN reports.
The six suspects aged between 32 and 54, who are from northern Moldova, had acted since February and in the period had stayed both in Moldova and in Ukraine. The role of a part of the suspects was to identify Ukrainians who intended to leave Ukraine to the EU. Owing to the situation in the region, these persons were offered to illegally cross the border between Moldova and Ukraine.
They helped migrants from Ukraine to illegally enter Moldova by crossing the Nistru River by boat and later employees of Moldova’s Border Police put the entry stamp on their IDs so that they could avoid difficulties when crossing the border to the EU. The migrants were then accommodated in northern Moldova for an indefinite period of time.
Three vehicles used to transport migrants, mobile phones, €12,000 and a pneumatic weapon were found as a result of searches carried out in the homes and cars of suspects.
