The Republic of Moldova is counting on Denmark’s support in the process of accession to the European Union, with the country taking over the EU Council presidency on July 1. The commitment was reaffirmed during a meeting between Moldovan Foreign Minister Mihai Popșoi and his Danish counterpart Lars Løkke Rasmussen, IPN reports.
He said that relations between the Republic of Moldova and the Kingdom of Denmark are solid and based on trust. He emphasized that the constant support provided by the Danish side has contributed to strengthening Moldova’s resilience in the economic, energy, financial and security fields. He also noted that the opening of the Danish Embassy in Chisinau last year was an important step in deepening bilateral relations.
Mihai Popsoi also emphasized the importance of the role that Denmark will play in 2025 as coordinator of the Nordic-Baltic 8 cooperation format. The minister noted that the recent visits of NB8 delegations to Moldova are a signal of support for the country’s European aspirations.
In his turn, the Danish Minister of Foreign Affairs said that Moldova can count on Denmark’s support in its European path. According to Lars Løkke Rasmussen, although integration into the European Union is a complex process, Moldova has the potential and determination to overcome the challenges and move towards accession.
The Moldovan minister also met members of the Danish Parliament’s foreign policy and European affairs committees. The discussions covered legislative support for Moldova’s European integration and the security situation in the region.
In addition to his visit to Denmark, Deputy Prime Minister Mihai Popsoi will undertake working visits to Luxembourg, Estonia and Latvia until May 20.
