MPs come together for first sitting of spring session

Parliament on Thursday has the first sitting of the 2023 spring session. Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilița is expected to come to Parliament to ask for the prolongation of the state of emergency, IPN reports.

The agenda includes the bill to regulate the participation financing services, the proposal to modify the conditions for deciding and providing social assistance and cold-month allowance, amendments to the law on the units whose agricultural land remains state property and to the law on editorial activity. The joining of the Convention on Facilitation of International Maritime Traffic is another item on the agenda.

The MPs will also examine legislative proposals concerning the disciplinary measures against judges and the work of the judicial inspectorate, amendments to the law on peasant farmsteads, the law on normative price and the method of selling and purchasing land and to the Penal Code of the Republic of Moldova.

The lawmakers will reexamine two bills – the bill to review the normative framework on nondiscrimination and ensuring of equality and the bill on the work of the ombudsperson – and will debate the draft decision to recall the Moldovan Parliament’s permanent representative to the Secretariat of the Parliamentary Assembly of the CIS Member Nations.

1 July: A new park and ride facility, intended for drivers who leave their car at the entrance to the city and continue their journey by public transport, is set to be arranged in the Buiucani sector of the capital, on Codrilor Street. The project, estimated at 6.5 million lei, provides for the arrangement of 240 parking spaces.

1 July: The capital’s City Hall has initiated public consultations regarding the updating of the General Urban Plan Chisinau 2040. According to the General Directorate of Architecture, Urbanism and Land Relations, the consultation process targets the 12 foundational studies developed so far, which will underpin the new urban development strategy.

1 July: Dozens of children eligible for adoption are waiting for a family in the city of Chisinau. At the beginning of June, the municipal authorities had 77 children registered for adoption. The data from the General Directorate for Child Rights Protection shows that some of them have brothers and sisters who are usually adopted together.

2 July: Traffic on Veronica Micle Street will be suspended, on the section between Alexandr Pushkin and Vlaicu Parcalab streets. The capital’s City Hall specifies that this measure was taken in connection with the start of repair works on this street segment.

2 July: The roofs and windows of several residential buildings in Chisinau will be replaced in the next two months. The municipal authorities announce that the works will be carried out in all sectors of the capital and aim to improve living conditions and increase the energy efficiency of the buildings.

3 July: The construction works of the Austrian School in Chisinau, financed by the Vienna Government, are starting. The institution will become a new training center in the field of information technology and electronics. The new educational institution is set to be built on Sprancenoaia Street no. 1 in the capital.

4 July: The classrooms and dining areas for the students of the “Gheorghe Malarciuc” Gymnasium in the city of Vatra will be modernized. In this regard, the Chisinau City Hall will allocate 500 thousand lei. According to the municipality, the investment is part of a broader program to modernize the middle school where over 200 students study.

6 July: The modernization works of the Ismail road junction in the capital continue. At this stage, a new pedestrian access way under the passage is being arranged, and sidewalks and steps for pedestrians are being executed on the construction site, with the aim of increasing the safety and comfort of traffic participants.

6 July: Almost 9 thousand children have already participated this summer in day camps and activities organized in the creation centers of Chisinau, within the municipal rest and recreation programs. By the end of the summer season, the number of beneficiaries is estimated to exceed 10 thousand students.

6 July: The Florilor Street in the Rascani sector will undergo major repairs for the first time since its construction. According to the mayor of the capital, Ion Ceban, the modernization works come after previous infrastructure interventions in the area, including the rehabilitation of sidewalks and the installation of street lighting.

7 July: Over 400 workers from the General Directorate of Housing and Community Services have been carrying out daily sanitation works in the capital’s sectors. They have intervened in washing waiting stations, cleaning apartment courtyards, and removing waste.

7 July: On 31 August 1989 Street in the center of the capital, the rehabilitation works continue. At this stage, the workers are installing the storm sewer and strengthening the foundation of the cobblestone. According to the Chisinau City Hall, the works are being carried out on the section between Mitropolit Gavriil Banulescu-Bodoni and Alexandr Pushkin streets.

8 July: Traffic on Grigore Vieru Boulevard is partially restricted, by lanes, on the section between Constantin Tanase and Albisoara streets. According to the Chisinau City Hall, the measure came into effect today and will be applied until August 25.

9 July: In the Buiucani sector of the capital, two new outdoor fitness areas have been set up. According to the Chisinau City Hall, the spaces are located on Paris Street, 40, and Liviu Deleanu, 4, and are part of the municipal program for the development of sports and recreational infrastructure.

10 July: Eleven plots of land within the city limits of Chisinau were awarded at the outcry land auction organized on Friday. The total amount obtained by the municipality amounts to 59.1 million lei. The Chisinau City Hall specifies that 14 plots of land were put up for sale during the auction, out of which three remained unclaimed.

10 July: The General Directorate of Education, Youth and Sport of Chisinau municipality requests the suspension of the “Restart” reform in education until an independent evaluation of the impact of the proposed changes is carried out. At the same time, the municipal authorities propose organizing a referendum on the reform in the capital.

11 July: Two new playgrounds for children have been set up in the Center and Buiucani sectors of the capital. According to the municipality, the areas are equipped with swings and slides, providing children with safe and comfortable conditions for outdoor activities. The works have been completed on Podul Inalt, 22 and Alba Iulia, 75/22 streets.

12 July: Middle school graduates who wish to continue their studies in the high schools of Chisinau will be able to submit their files from July 13th. Registration will be done exclusively online, through the platform escoala.chisinau.md. The first stage of admission will run until August 1.

12 July: Road traffic will be restricted from July 13, on several streets in the capital, where road repair works will be carried out. Among the targeted sectors are Florilor, Sarmizegetusa and Muncesti Highway streets, and the restrictions will be applied in stages.

13 July: The municipality has relaunched the tender for the restoration of the historic Chisinau City Hall building, after two previous procedures failed. No participants registered for the first competition, and for the second one, the only submitted bid was declared non-compliant.

13 July: The municipal budget for the year 2026 was approved by the Chisinau Municipal Council with the vote of 27 councilors. Members of the Action and Solidarity Party faction abstained, citing a lack of transparency in presenting the details of the project and the proposals previously put forward by councilors.

13 July: The majority of the Chisinau municipality budget for the year 2026 is allocated to education – 5.1 billion lei, and to housing and communal services – 2.6 billion lei. The budget was approved on Monday, in the second reading, by the Chisinau Municipal Council.

14 July: The residents of a 16-story building on Unirii Principatelor Square Street in the capital will have an elevator, after 18 years. The current equipment no longer worked due to advanced wear and tear. The installation of the new elevator is part of the municipal program for the modernization of elevators.

15 July: Traffic on Columna Street in the capital, on the section between Banulescu-Bodoni and Puskin streets, will be suspended on Thursday, from 10:00 AM, until Monday, at 05:00 AM. The measure is taken in the context of the “Te salut, Chisinau!” festival, and in the following days, traffic restrictions will be extended to other streets of the capital.

16 July: Students from grades I-XII in the capital are invited to participate in the reading contest “Click on the book: Screen OFF. Book ON.” organized by the Chisinau City Hall through the “B. P. Hasdeu” Municipal Library. Participants will read selected works and accumulate points to earn prizes and diplomas at the end of the campaign.

16 July: For three days, the “Eugen Doga” pedestrian street will host folk, retro and classical music concerts, performed by artists from the Republic of Moldova and Romania, as part of the “Te salut, Chisinau!” Festival. The event marks the 590 years since the first documented attestation of the capital.

16 July: The Chisinau Municipal Council has approved the conferral of the title of Honorary Citizen of Chisinau to nine personalities who have distinguished themselves through their contributions in the fields of culture, music, science, education, and sports. The decisions were made during the meeting on July 16.

16 July: A capture parking lot is set to be arranged on Vadul lui Voda Street in the Ciocana sector of the capital. According to the municipality, it will have a capacity of approximately 550 spaces and will allow drivers to leave their cars and travel to the city center or other sectors by public transport.

17 July: Chisinau marks 590 years since its first documentary attestation. On this occasion, the mayor Ion Ceban sent a congratulatory message, in which he emphasized that the city is not just streets, buildings or projects, but above all the people who build it, live it day by day and contribute to its development.

17 July: The municipal services are replacing the worn-out pipes in the basement of the building on Calea Iesilor Street, 19 in Chisinau, in order to eliminate leaks and improve the operation of the water and heating supply system. The municipality specifies that the works are part of the housing infrastructure modernization program.

18 July: Chisinau marks 590 years since its first documentary attestation through the festival “Te salut, Chisinau”, which brought together, on the first day, thousands of residents and guests of the capital on the pedestrian street “Eugen Doga”. The festival kicked off in a festive atmosphere, with recitals performed by artists from the Republic of Moldova and Romania.

19 July: Traffic on Minsk Street in the capital will be suspended from July 20-24. The restrictions target the section between Hanul Morii and Cetatea Alba streets, in the Botanica sector. To reach the area, drivers will be able to use Taskent Street.

19 July: Thousands of people were present at the concerts organized on the second day of the “Te salut, Chisinau” festival. The program brought together on the stage on “Eugen Doga” pedestrian street the “Camerata Chisinau” Municipal Chamber Orchestra, along with Dorel Burlacu Band. The special guest of the evening was the band Holograf from Romania.

20 July: Chisinau does not risk running out of water, and currently there are no premises that could affect the capital’s water supply. The statement was made by the general mayor Ion Ceban during the operational meeting of the municipal services on Monday, after the Ministry of Environment warned that, the water intake station could become non-functional.

20 July: The “Autosalubritate” Directorate has received six new skip-type containers, intended for waste collection and transportation. Some of them have already been allocated to business agents in Chisinau, and the rest will be distributed according to needs. The new containers each have a capacity of 20 cubic meters.

21 July: Repair work on Mitropolit Dosoftei Street in the capital, on the section between Henri Coandă and Mihai Viteazul streets, will begin on Wednesday, July 22. According to municipal authorities, traffic will be partially restricted until August 30, with lanes being closed in stages.

21 July: Children from the diaspora aged 7 to 12 will have the opportunity to discover Chisinau through a series of free educational and creative activities. From August 10 to 15, they will take part in tours of the capital, meetings with writers, and creative workshops organized by the “B. P. Hasdeu” Municipal Library under the auspices of the Chisinau City Hall.

21 July: The results of archaeological research conducted in recent years in Chisinau are on display in an exhibition that opened at the National Museum of the History of Moldova. Visitors can view artifacts, research documents, photographs, and historical reenactments that illustrate the capital’s evolution.

21 July: The courtyard of the apartment building on Buiucani Street in the capital, where the late artist Anatol Dumitras lived, is currently being renovated. After the parking spaces are organized and the access road is paved, a playground for children will be built and a commemorative plaque dedicated to the artist’s memory will be installed.

22 July: Over 9,500 applications for admission to the tenth grade were submitted through the escoala.chisinau.md platform in the first stage of enrollment in the city’s high schools. The General Directorate of Education, Youth and Sports convened on Wednesday the directors of high school educational institutions to analyze the results of the completed stage.

22 July: Traffic in Chisinau is to be reorganized through a set of measures aimed at reducing congestion and improving mobility in the city. The proposed solutions include the arrangement of parking lots at the entrances to the capital, the development of the periurban train, the construction of the ring road and the expansion of bicycle infrastructure.

22 July: The mayor of Chisinau, Ion Ceban, has announced that he will send a letter to the presidential administration in Kyiv, given the risks that a potential water crisis could pose to the population and institutions in the capital.

22 July: Road traffic will be partially suspended on Alexe Mateevici Street, on the section between Maria Cebotari and Nicolae Iorga Streets, on Thursday from 09:00 AM to 10:00 PM. According to municipal authorities, the measure was taken to allow for repair work on a water main in the area.

24 July: Pest control and disinsection works will be carried out in approximately 2,500 residential blocks in Chisinau by October. The interventions will take place at least twice in the basements of each building, as part of the actions initiated by the Chisinau City Hall to prevent infestation with rodents and insects.

25 July: A new section of Muncesti Road has entered the rehabilitation process. The City Hall of Chisinau announces that the milling works on the roadway have begun on the sector between Arca Moldovei Street and Bacioii Noi Street, a stage that precedes the complete modernization of the asphalt surface.

25 July: Construction work on the new waste transfer station with a sorting line in the Ciocana district has reached approximately 60% completion. The project is being carried out as part of the municipal initiative “Chisinau Solid Waste”. The investment for this phase of the project exceeds 8 million euros.

27 July: The sidewalk and green space improvement works on Veronica Micle Street in the capital continue on a new section. This refers to the portion between Aleksandr Pushkin and Mihai Eminescu streets, where traffic will be halted until August 30.

28 July: The former temporary household waste site in the Ciocana sector of the capital will be equipped with a facility for capturing and burning the biogas generated by the landfill. The installation of the equipment has begun, which is expected to reduce emissions and the impact of the former landfill on the environment.

28 July: Traffic on Peace Street in the city of Stauceni will be suspended from July 28 to 30 for asphalt works. The restrictions will also affect public transport, with the routes of bus no. 37 and trolleybus no. 32 being modified starting from Tuesday.

29 July: A pavilion with 100 stalls will be built in the “Angro” sector of the Central Market, in the access area from Mitropolit Varlaam street, where the current metal stalls are located. The modernization project was approved by the Chisinau Municipal Council.

30 July: Traffic will be suspended on one lane of Pantelimon Halippa street in the capital, during the period from July 30 to August 30. The restrictions will be applied in stages, predominantly at night, for the execution of maintenance and rehabilitation works on the roadway.

31 July: The Chisinau municipal council has approved the Local Action Plan for greener mobility, a document drawn up by the General Directorate of Architecture, Urban Planning and Land Relations. It provides for the classification of the streets in the capital and will serve as a guide for future interventions on the street space.

31 July: Road traffic at the intersection of Tudor Vladimirescu, Aerodromului, and Nicolae Dimo streets in the capital will be suspended from Friday, 10:00 PM, until Monday, 05:00 AM. The restrictions are put in place for repair works on a fault in the public sewerage network.
