Vegetation fire in Cantemir. Man found dead

Firefighters were called out to Cantemir district, where a vegetation fire spread quickly and reached several houses. During the operation, the firefighters found the body of an 81-year-old man in a garden, IPN reports.

The General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations said that the flames engulfed five abandoned houses and the dry vegetation between them, on an area of about 6 hectares. Two houses burned to the ground.

The Inspectorate repeatedly urges the population to be very cautious and to strictly comply with the anti-fire rules, especially in hot weather, to avoid the outbreak of wildfires, which can cause significant damage and lead to loss of life.

The people are asked to refrain from using fire near fields, wooded areas and recreational places so as to prevent bush fires. The citizens are urged not to set fire to dry vegetation and household garbage.

In the Republic of Moldova, a red heat advisory was issued as the temperatures are expected to increase to +40 degrees Celsius. The fire danger warning remains in force.

In situations of risk, the people are urged to call the 112 Service.

Fugitive Ilan Sor has been sent to trial in a case involving the embezzlement of 100 million dollars from the assets of the Savings Bank. According to the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office, he is accused of having organized and coordinated, during the period 2013-2014, a criminal group that would have implemented the scheme of withdrawing money from the bank, reports IPN.

The Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office clarifies that, at that time, Ilan Sor was the chairman of the BEM Board of Directors. According to the accusation, he is alleged to have played the role of organizer, instigator, and co-author of the scheme, acting together with other involved individuals.

According to the prosecution, Ilan Sor would have controlled, through intermediaries, several financial-banking institutions and would have ensured the adoption of the necessary decisions for the implementation of the scheme. The BEM money would have been transferred and used in the interest of the criminal group, including through the use of false documents.

On June 17, the Chisinau Court, Ciocana headquarters, ordered the application of preventive arrest in relation to Ilan Sor. The decision was made in his absence. If found guilty, he risks between 8 and 15 years in prison.
