The leaders of the European Union have announced that Moldova will receive an additional 528 million euros from the Growth Plan, if all the reform stages set for 2026 will be fulfilled, and the implementation pace will be constant. The statements were made in Brussels, at the press conference organized after the EU-Moldova summit, reports IPN.
Financial resources are managed through the Reform and Growth Facility and aim to accelerate Moldova’s economic harmonization with the Union’s internal market. The main objective of this financial support is to stimulate priority investments and create new professional opportunities at the national level, while also providing the necessary support for the deep institutional and regulatory reforms required in the accession process.
At the same time, in the energy sector, the European Union has reaffirmed its support for the completion and operationalization of the high-voltage electric line Vulcanesti-Chisinau, a project aimed at strengthening the energy security and independence of Moldova. Another strategic initiative that the EU has committed to support is the Vertical Gas Corridor. According to the leaders’ statement, this is intended to strengthen regional resilience and the country’s natural gas supply security.
At the same time, European leaders reaffirmed their strong support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Moldova in the context of the war waged by Russia against Ukraine, and condemned the violations of the airspace and Moscow’s hybrid interferences in Chisinau. Moreover, the leaders once again called for the withdrawal of Russian troops from the Transnistrian region.
