The strengthening of the international reputation of the Republic of Moldova promotes investments and stimulates economic growth. The statement was made by the Governor of the National Bank of Moldova, Anca Dragu, at the high-level international conference “Black Sea and Balkans Security Forum” in Bucharest, reports IPN.

The Governor of the BNM presented the role of the institution as a pillar of financial stability in the context of European integration, emphasizing the efforts to strengthen the resilience of the banking system in the face of hybrid and cyber threats.

Anca Dragu mentioned that Moldova’s European journey has accelerated the country’s interconnection with the European financial infrastructure and integration into SEPA. The BNM Governor mentioned the BNM’s commitment to transpose European regulations on crypto-asset markets and digital operational resilience as strategic priorities for modernizing and securing the national financial system.

The governor of the central bank emphasized that at BNM, innovation has become a key element in strengthening resilience and trust. “We have made progress in modernizing the payment infrastructure and promoting digital transformation, with a clear objective: building an inclusive, interoperable financial system aligned with European standards,” said Anca Dragu.

The National Bank of Moldova specifies, in a press release, that the “Black Sea and Balkans Security Forum” remains one of the most relevant regional dialogue platforms. During May 12-13, it brings together in Bucharest experts, policy makers and representatives of the academic environment to analyze the most pressing issues of the moment.

Construction work on the new waste transfer station with a sorting line in the Ciocana district has reached approximately 60% completion. The project is being carried out as part of the municipal initiative “Chisinau Solid Waste,” according to IPN.

Currently, the buildings that will serve the complex have been completed, including the administrative building, the sorting station hall, the transfer station, the car wash, and the repair shop. In addition, weigh stations for fire trucks, fire protection tanks, and utility networks are being constructed.

Once the sorting facility is completed, the modern sorting line—which has already been manufactured and is ready for transport to Chisinau—will be installed. This will enable the separation of recyclable materials and increase the capacity for sorting and recycling municipal waste.

The capital city’s municipal government states that the new transfer station, equipped with a waste sorting line, is one of the most significant investments in municipal waste management infrastructure ever made in Chisinau.

The investment for this phase of the project exceeds 8 million euros. The “Chisinau Solid Waste” project, with a total value of approximately 26 million euros, is financed by the Chisinau City Hall, the EBRD, the EIB through the Ministry of Finance, and the E5P Fund.

Freelance workers will be able to opt for the entire package of social benefits, including maternity or paternity leave, if they pay a higher social contribution. The Parliament has approved, in the first reading, a bill that extends social insurance rights for this category of people, reports IPN.

The initiative, drafted by the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection, aims to apply the principle of equal treatment between women and men who carry out independent activities and transposes into the legislation of the Republic of Moldova the European standards in the field.

According to the project, independent workers will be able to choose to benefit from the entire social benefits package by submitting a declaration to the National House of Social Insurance and paying an increased fixed tax, set annually by the State Social Insurance Budget Law.

In this case, they will have the right to compensation for temporary incapacity to work, maternity allowance, child-rearing allowance, paternity allowance, as well as a one-time allowance in the case of adopting a child. At the same time, the project stipulates that the wives of independent workers will also be able to benefit from maternity allowance.

The data from the State Fiscal Service shows that, in 2024, in the Republic of Moldova there were 50,879 registered independent workers who were contributing to the state social insurance budget. Currently, they only benefit from retirement due to age limit and death assistance, without having access to maternity benefits or other social services.
