The rehabilitation of the Costesti-Stanca dam could be completed by the end of the year

The authorities promise that the rehabilitation works of the dam from the Costesti-Stanca reservoir will be completed faster than initially established. The Ministry of Environment mentions that, although the initial plan was for two years, the execution pace will allow their completion by the end of this year, reports IPN.

The Ministry mentions that so far, approximately 30% of the planned works have been completed. The interventions have primarily focused on ensuring the correct operation of the dam. The piezometric system used for monitoring the water pressure on the hydro-technical structure has been rehabilitated.

At the same time, maintenance and modernization works were carried out on two bottom outlets, components that assist in the control and evacuation of water. Also, specialists checked the underwater area of the dam, to assess the condition of the construction and identify any potential issues requiring intervention.

The Costesti-Stanca Dam, located on the border between the Republic of Moldova and Romania, was built based on a bilateral agreement ratified in 1972. The works began in 1973 and were completed five years later. It is being repaired and modernized for the first time in 20 years. The Ministry of Environment announced the start of rehabilitation works at the beginning of December 2025. The project has a total value of 32 million lei.

A new section of Muncesti Road has entered the rehabilitation process. The City Hall of Chisinau announces that the milling works on the roadway have begun on the sector between Arca Moldovei Street and Bacioii Noi Street, a stage that precedes the complete modernization of the asphalt surface, reports IPN.

On this section, with an area of approximately 23 thousand square meters, two layers of asphalt concrete are to be applied, the stormwater drainage channels are to be rehabilitated, and the shoulders are to be arranged with crushed stone.

In parallel, on the sector between Arca Moldovei Street and Iuri Gagarin Boulevard, the rehabilitation works using Slurry Seal technology are nearing completion. During this period, the second layer, the wear layer, is being applied, which serves to protect the road surface and extend its service life.

According to the municipality, after the completion of the works, Muncesti Road will have a modernized roadway, with better traffic conditions and an increased level of safety for traffic participants.
