The way we use money is rapidly changing under the influence of technology, and this requires increased attention and a better understanding of financial risks. The message was conveyed by Governor Anca Dragu at a public lecture for students, organized on the occasion of the opening of the thematic week “Global Money Week”, reports IPN.

Anca Dragu drew attention to the dangers of online fraud and promises of quick enrichment. “Every financial decision, no matter how small, must contribute to building a stable and prosperous future, it must contribute to our financial and decision-making autonomy”, stated the head of the BNM. She encouraged students to invest in education and professional training, as this represents the surest path to long-term financial independence. The governor also recommended caution when accessing consumer credit.

Throughout the event, the European path of Moldova was also discussed. The National Bank of Moldova (BNM) actively participates in aligning financial legislation with EU standards and in accession negotiations.

The National Bank is organizing a series of activities during the period of March 16-22 as part of the International Financial Education Week (Global Money Week), aimed at familiarizing the public with economic subjects for making responsible financial decisions. The agenda includes interactive workshops and training sessions, during which young people will learn directly from experts about the role of the central bank, monetary policy, the digitalization of the financial system and the basic rules for secure online payments.

Economic operators and service providers will be required to ensure the accessibility of products and services for people with disabilities, the elderly, and individuals with temporary or permanent functional limitations. The accessibility requirements are contained in a bill voted on in the first reading by Parliament, reports IPN.

The new requirements will target six areas: technology and software programs, e-commerce, financial services, transportation, services provided by public institutions, and emergency communications. The regulations will also apply to electronic communication services, access to audiovisual media services, web pages, mobile applications, and self-service terminals.

Accessibility requirements will also be mandatory for certain products, such as hardware systems, payment terminals, ATMs, and e-book readers. Micro-enterprises that offer services will be exempt from complying with these obligations.

The project, developed by the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection, aims to increase the autonomy and inclusion of people who face access difficulties.

Non-compliance with accessibility requirements will be subject to administrative penalties. The project will be examined in the second reading, and the new rules will come into effect on January 1, 2028, with certain exceptions for products and services.
