The Cabinet approved a new set of regulations that change the way honey is processed and labeled in Moldova. The new rules aim to ensure greater transparency for consumers and simplify the activity of beekeepers, IPN reports.
The main change concerns product labeling. From now on, labels must clearly indicate the country or countries of origin of the honey, in order of their weight in the product. Thus, consumers will be able to take informed decisions, having access to accurate information about the origin of the honey they buy.
Another significant change is the elimination of the concept of “filtered honey” from the legislation. This means that pollen and other natural constituents could no longer be eliminated and the authenticity and beneficial properties of honey will be thus preserved.
For beekeepers, the legislative changes also bring a simplification of the marketing process. Certification of conformity is no longer mandatory and this fact eliminates the need for additional fees and reduces bureaucracy for manufacturers. This measure will allow them to optimize their activity and invest more in business development.
According to the authorities, the new regulations support a transparent market and a more authentic product, offering consumers the guarantee of the quality and origin of the honey they purchase.
