The former mayor of Bolduresti, Nicanor Ciochina, was sentenced to 7 years in prison for fatally hitting a 14-year-old teenager and leaving the scene of the crime. He later allegedly tried to stage another accident to avoid criminal liability. The sentence was pronounced in the defendant’s absence by the judges of the Chisinau Court, Buiucani headquarters, reports IPN.

Throughout the process, Nicanor Ciochina maintained his innocence, claiming that the case was built on political interests. However, the victim’s family considers him responsible and has asked the court to deliver a fair sentence.

The former mayor is also under investigation in another criminal case for alleged acts of torture and inhuman or degrading treatment, accusations he denies.

At the end of January, Nicanor Ciochina was detained in the case regarding torture, immediately after he participated in a meeting related to the traffic accident case, at that time being under judicial control, and was subsequently placed in preventive detention.

Registrations have begun for the seventh edition of the “Sense of Money” financial education camp, organized by the National Bank of Moldova. The program is intended for young people over 16 years old who want to develop their financial skills and better understand the role of the financial system in the economy, reports IPN.

The Governor of the BNM, Anca Dragu, stated that the camp offers participants practical tools for managing money and making informed financial decisions. According to her, financial education contributes to individual security and the development of a stable economy.

The program includes interactive sessions, case studies, practical workshops, and discussions with experts from BNM and other institutions. For the first time, participants will also be able to access the FinanciarELE mentorship program, supported by women in leadership positions in the financial-banking sector.

Young people will learn about the role of the central bank, price stability, saving, investing, using digital financial services, and safely making electronic payments.

Participation is free, and registrations are open until August 6. Those interested can register by sending a message to the address [email protected].
