Woman raped and killed in Chisinau, the suspect faces life imprisonment

Prosecutors have sent to court the case of a young man from the Transnistrian region, accused of murdering a woman, committed in February of this year, in an apartment in Chisinau. According to the General Prosecutor’s Office, the man allegedly raped the victim, then strangled her, and in order to mislead the investigation, he inflicted cuts on her hands, to create the impression of a suicide, reports IPN.

The victim provided sexual services for payment, and the accused was her client. He does not admit guilt for the alleged offenses.

The young man left the country’s territory, being located and extradited from a European Union state. Investigators established that he attempted to erase the traces of the crime from the apartment, using alcohol and pharmaceutical disinfectant solutions to clean the surfaces. He also left the water running.

If found guilty, the man faces a prison sentence of up to 20 years or life imprisonment.

A few days after the publication of a journalistic investigation into alleged irregularities in the activity of the Agency for Medicines and Medical Devices, the institution announces that it will provide the necessary support within the control ordered by the Ministry of Health. AMDM specifies that, in the next ten days, the batches of catheters targeted by reports will be identified and the necessary information will be collected from the medical and health institutions, reports IPN.

In a press release, AMDM specifies that, until the completion of the checks, hospitals will be informed about any precautionary measures regarding the use of the batches under investigation.

The Agency urges medical staff, patients, medical institutions, and economic operators to report any incident or suspicion regarding the quality of medical devices. At the same time, it requests the preservation of products, packaging, and batch identification data for the conduct of investigations.

AMDM states that it will not comment on individual accusations for the time being, so as not to affect the checks. The results of the control will be made public, and if violations are found, the institution affirms that it will apply the measures provided by law. These may include restricting or withdrawing medical devices from the market, administrative or disciplinary sanctions, and notifying the competent authorities.

The Ministry of Health ordered the inspection of AMDM after information appeared in the press regarding alleged irregularities in the institution’s activity. The investigation targets possible problems in the medical device evaluation process, as well as accusations of unfair competition and favoritism of certain economic agents.
