The possibilities of increasing bilateral trade and attracting more Azerbaijani investors were discussed at the meeting of Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu with the Ambassador of the Republic of Azerbaijan to Moldova, Ulvi Bakhshaliyev, reports IPN.

The Chief Executive reiterated the openness of the Moldovan authorities to intensify contacts between business environments and to develop joint projects. Agriculture and energy were mentioned as areas with potential for investment.

The Prime Minister and the ambassador referred to the broader agenda of Moldovan-Azerbaijani relations and the promotion of political dialogue. The two dignitaries discussed facilitating bilateral visits at various levels, as a tool for strengthening cooperation. At the same time, the development of collaboration in the cultural field was addressed, as part of bilateral relations.

The authorities have restricted the use of drinking water and surface water for non-essential activities, such as street washing or pool filling. Water will be prioritized for the essential needs of the population. The decisions were approved by the National Crisis Management Commission, against the backdrop of risks generated by the low level of water in the Dniester, reports IPN.

At the same time, the capture of water from the Dniester River and the irrigation of agricultural lands will be allowed exclusively during the night, between the hours of 09:00 PM and 06:00 AM, with priority for horticultural crops. The irrigation process will be monitored by the competent authorities, and in sectors where the water level will reach critical thresholds, the Ministry of Environment may temporarily suspend the captures.

To ensure the continuity of water supply, local authorities will activate reserve wells and, as appropriate, will use available funds to put them into operation. At the same time, public service operators will intensify the monitoring of water quality at the intake points designated for drinking water supply, through additional sampling and laboratory analysis.

According to the decision of the CNMC, Apa-Canal Chisinau, in coordination with the competent local and central authorities, will undertake the necessary measures to maintain the water supply of the city of Chisinau. Depending on the evolution of the situation, the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations will prepare logistical capacities for the distribution of potable water using mobile cisterns in the affected localities.

Also, the Commission has decided to reduce by at least 20% the water consumption of industrial economic operators whose activities are not essential for food production, the medical sector, or public health.

President Maia Sandu urges representatives of the approximately 160 municipalities where the voluntary amalgamation process has stalled to resume negotiations and carry the reform through to the end. The head of state argues that reorganization is necessary for community development, reports IPN.

“Please do not be discouraged. I urge you to persist, to be the leaders who will remain in history for courage and vision,” Maia Sandu declared in a message addressed to local elected officials.

According to the president, some decisions may seem unpopular at present, but they are necessary for the long-term development of communities. Maia Sandu stated that local leaders need to look beyond immediate interests and provide communities with a better development perspective.

The head of state reiterated that the Government continues to support the voluntary amalgamation process and mentioned that approximately 200 municipalities are in the final stage of procedures, set to benefit from assistance for their completion by the end of August. At the same time, over 400 local authorities have already adopted the final decisions regarding amalgamation.

Maia Sandu stated that municipalities refusing to participate in voluntary amalgamation will be subsequently reorganized by law. In this case, local administrations will not benefit from the financial incentives offered by the Government and will not be able to decide with which municipalities they will be merged.
