Maia Sandu, meeting with Alain Berset: Moldova is ready to defend European democracies

The Republic of Moldova is prepared to contribute to the protection of European democracies against hybrid attacks, stated President Maia Sandu, during discussions with the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Alain Berset, who is visiting Chisinau. The meeting took place in the context of Moldova taking over the Presidency of the Committee of Ministers of the organization, reports IPN.

In discussions with Alain Berset, President Maia Sandu welcomed the constant support of the Council of Europe in developing institutional capacities and advancing justice sector reforms, as outlined in the 2025-2028 Action Plan for the Republic of Moldova. The document aims to strengthen the independence and integrity of the judicial system, align national legislation with European standards and increase the transparency of public institutions.

The head of state has reaffirmed the firm commitment of the Republic of Moldova to remain a constructive European partner, dedicated to peace, democracy and the rule of law.

In the next six months, Moldova will play an increasingly active role in the activities of the Council of Europe, with the Presidency set to conclude with the Ministerial Meeting in Chisinau, on May 15, 2026.

A new section of Muncesti Road has entered the rehabilitation process. The City Hall of Chisinau announces that the milling works on the roadway have begun on the sector between Arca Moldovei Street and Bacioii Noi Street, a stage that precedes the complete modernization of the asphalt surface, reports IPN.

On this section, with an area of approximately 23 thousand square meters, two layers of asphalt concrete are to be applied, the stormwater drainage channels are to be rehabilitated, and the shoulders are to be arranged with crushed stone.

In parallel, on the sector between Arca Moldovei Street and Iuri Gagarin Boulevard, the rehabilitation works using Slurry Seal technology are nearing completion. During this period, the second layer, the wear layer, is being applied, which serves to protect the road surface and extend its service life.

According to the municipality, after the completion of the works, Muncesti Road will have a modernized roadway, with better traffic conditions and an increased level of safety for traffic participants.
