High-level meeting in Chisinau, with the participation of the EU Commissioner for Financial Services

High-ranking officials of national and European authorities, representatives of international financial institutions, and experts in the economic field will meet on Thursday, October 30, in Chisinau, as part of a high-level dialogue workshop organized by the National Bank of Moldova. Maria Luís Albuquerque, European Commissioner for Financial Services, the Union of Economies, and Investments, will deliver a special speech, reports IPN.

According to the National Bank of Moldova, the purpose of the event is to create a strategic dialogue platform on financial and economic priorities in the context of the European path of the Republic of Moldova.

“The financial system can transform the ambition of integration into a beneficial reality for citizens and the business environment. The National Bank of Moldova reaffirms its commitment to promoting dialogue with European and international partners, contributing to the modernization and financial convergence of the Republic of Moldova with the European Union,” emphasized the BNM governor, Anca Dragu, quoted in a press release from the institution.

The forum will bear the theme “Finance and Economic Growth: Lessons for the European Path of the Republic of Moldova”, and the central topics will focus on aligning the financial sector with European standards, modernizing agriculture through innovative tools, energy security and sustainable investments aimed at the green transition. Also, participants will discuss the development of small and medium enterprises by increasing competitiveness and stimulating innovation, as well as the integration of the capital market and the digital transformation of the economy – elements designed to accelerate the connection of the Republic of Moldova to the single European market.

Economic operators and service providers will be required to ensure the accessibility of products and services for people with disabilities, the elderly, and individuals with temporary or permanent functional limitations. The accessibility requirements are contained in a bill voted on in the first reading by Parliament, reports IPN.

The new requirements will target six areas: technology and software programs, e-commerce, financial services, transportation, services provided by public institutions, and emergency communications. The regulations will also apply to electronic communication services, access to audiovisual media services, web pages, mobile applications, and self-service terminals.

Accessibility requirements will also be mandatory for certain products, such as hardware systems, payment terminals, ATMs, and e-book readers. Micro-enterprises that offer services will be exempt from complying with these obligations.

The project, developed by the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection, aims to increase the autonomy and inclusion of people who face access difficulties.

Non-compliance with accessibility requirements will be subject to administrative penalties. The project will be examined in the second reading, and the new rules will come into effect on January 1, 2028, with certain exceptions for products and services.
