The aircraft will no longer explode, while the passengers will remain immobilized for 30 seconds after the impact with the soil in case of a plane crash. This will be possible only if the aircraft is outfitted with the technological system SIAAB that was invented by Alexandru Balan - a young Moldovan researcher from Cojusna, Chisinau municipality. The revolutionary anti-explosion and anti-trauma products intended to save lives during plane accidents were launched in Chisinau in the evening of October 22, IPN reports.
According to the young inventor, the product SIAAB1 is a chemical substance with a powerful concentration that changes its chemical and physical structure when it comes in contact with kerosene and becomes solid. When it has the same consistency as sand, it inhibits the inflammation and burning property of fuel and does not explode when it touches the soil.
The anti-trauma product SIAAB2 is a system that emits foam for 2.2 seconds inside the plane in a crash. This substance grows 416 times and returns to the initial, liquid state in 30 seconds. The solution is inoffensive for eyes and skin. SIAAB2 aims to reduce injuries to a minimum as a result of a collision.
Alexandru Balan said he invented the products with the help of his father who was a pilot by profession. He didn’t want to say what the value of the inventions is, saying they are worth seven apartments in Chisinau or several hundred thousand euros. He said he worked on the project for six years alongside a team of professionals who graduated from the Moscow State University and the Technical University of Helsinki.
For the time being, only the US and several European countries expressed interest in the inventions. Moldova now cannot afford to implement such a project.
The Moldovan civil aviation representatives attending the event welcomed the inventions, but doubted the properties of the second system. “It seems that it excludes the safety belts and oxygen masks, while the emergency evacuation takes 90 seconds, not 30, as the inventor proposes,” said Air Moldova director Mircea Maleca.
