Pedestrians on Stefan cel Mare Avenue in Chisinau have been pleasantly surprised by a flash-mob with classical music today, August 11. Twenty young musicians, including five returning after studying abroad, together with students from the Chisinau Conservatory, have created the Chisinau Youth Orchestra (CYO). The flash-mob “Sing with us” allowed volunteers from the public to conduct the orchestra as the musicians played some of the most famous pieces of classical music. The action was organized under the slogan “You're welcome, CYO”, IPN reports.
The organizers of the event allowed ordinary people to try the job of a conductor and feel the musician's emotions. “Through such actions, CYO wants to make the life of the city more active, to bring more people into the public space and make them feel freer and more open”, said CYO conductor and coordinator Adriano Marian.
Victor Zaharia, one of the conductors of the flash-mob, said that such events are welcome for the society in Chisinau and for promoting the classical music genre.
The young musicians are studying at the best musical schools in Europe and now, while back home, will perform a series of concerts. On 22 August, there will be an open air concert in the Cathedral Square, followed next day by another one at the Organ Hall. On August 24, CYO and soprano Valentina Nafornita will perform at the Palace of the Republic of Moldova as part of Valentina Nafornita's Opera Gala.
Radu Marian, spectator, said that this way the orchestra got closer to the people and brought classical music, quality music, to the heart of the city. “People are curious and some of even actually tried to conduct for the first time”, he noted.
“I live abroad, in America, and there such events are frequent. This summer I was happy to see changes in Moldova: I noticed that the youth are concerned with new things and take responsibilities”, said Tatiana Castro.
The flash-mob was organized by the Musical-Choral Association of Moldova.
