A 26-year-old man from the capital was sentenced by the Chisinau Court to eight years in prison after blackmailing his partner, whom he met on social networks, with posting intimate images of her on the internet if she refuses to give him money.

In a press release of the General Prosecutor's Office, quoted by IPN, it is said that the young people met on social media, after which they had an intimate encounter. The young man took pictures of his partner, aged 23, in intimate situations, despite her disagreement.

Under the pretext that he must pay a fine for drunk driving, the next day the man called the girl to ask for money. The girl reportedly gave him several times 2 or 3 thousand lei, and also a ring. When she refused to give him her gold chain too, he threatened her with posting the intimate photos on social networks.

The young woman, who recorded the phone conversations with the threats, reported it to the authorities. Law enforcement officers detained the perpetrator in a public place in Chisinau when he was handed over the amount of 4000 lei, which he had last requested. He was under arrest until the sentence was delivered by the first court.

Previously he had also been convicted of robbery.
