Weather forecasters issued a yellow code advisory for heavy snowfalls for January 11. According to the State Hydrometeorological Service, the layer of snow will measure 5 to 10 cm. Snow piles will form in parts, IPN reports.
The snowfalls will avoid several northern districts, including Briceni, Ocnita, Edinet, and Donduseni.
On the night of January 11, the temperatures will decrease to -18°C in northern Moldova. The coming days, daytime temperatures will vary between -1 and -6°C, while nighttime ones between -6...-11°C. Towards the weekend, it will grow warmer and temperatures will rise to +1°C during the day. At night they will oscillate between -9 and -12°C.
In connection with the yellow code warning, the Civil Protection and Emergencies Service recommends avoiding long trips or outfitting oneself appropriately if such trips cannot be avoided. The motorists are warned to have a shovel and chains in the trunk and to equip the car with winter tires. Moreover, before setting out, the weather forecast should be checked as to avoid the snowy portions.
Firefighters recommend obeying the anti-fire rules, avoiding overheating the heating systems and putting out the fire before going to sleep so as to avoid unpleasant situations. In emergencies, one can call the service 901.
