Wrestler Victor Ciobanu wins silver

Greco-Roman wrestler Victor Ciobanu won the 12th medal for Moldova at the World University Games held in Kazan, Russia, IPN reports. On July 15, the 20-year-old athlete won silver in the 55 kg class after beating Ivan Loncaric of Croatia, Shota Tanokura of Japan, and Max Nowry of the U.S. In the decisive battle, he was defeated by Russia’s Ivan Tatarinov.

This is the second silver medal for Moldova won at the competition in Russia. The other silver was brought by belt wrestler Maxim Mamulat. The other ten medals won by the Moldovan athletes are bronze.

The other Greco-Roman wrestlers, Mihail Cosnicean (66 kg) and Serghei Zgherea (84 kg), were eliminated in the preliminary rounds.

In kayak-canoeing, Pavel Rusu finished seventh in the 500 m individual race, while the pair Ilie Sprancean and Ilie Nuta took the same position in the 500 m doubles.

In the women’s sambo, Tatiana Osoianu (52 kg) lost to Kaugar Turmahanova of Kazakhstan in the 1/16 finals.

The World Universiade closes on July 17.
