World financial crisis broached at CIS summit in Chisinau

The world financial crisis and the measures to overcome its aftereffects is one of the main subjects discussed by the council of the CIS heads of governments in Chisinau, Info-Prim Neo reports. The session has been opened by Moldovan Prime-Minister Zinainda Greceanai. “The session is taking place in a difficult period not only for Moldova but for the entire community. The world crisis in develop, both economic and financial-banking, alongside the problematic insurance of the food and energy security make us analyze even more seriously the realities and to strengthen our efforts to overcome the effects of these challenges,” Zinaida Greceanai said. Greceanai hopes by approving the CIS Economic Development to 2020 Strategy will allow for identifying the directions of the CIS' further development. “At the CIS summits of heads of states in Bishkek on October 10, the presidents established that energy and youth should be the key priorities in 2009. Moldova will focus namely on these subjects as it will hold the CIS presidency,” Zinaida Greceanai said. Belarusian Premier Sergei Sidorsky has said his counterparts have discussed the negative consequences on the economies of the member states that the world crisis may have. “We consider the CIS, as a regional organization with stable rhythms of economic development, shall play an important role in building the new world financial architecture. “In Bishkek, the presidents decided the finance ministers will consult one another concerning the situation and the measures to overcome the effects of the crisis. On December 12, the measures proposed by the financial-economic body of the CIS will be announced,” the Belarusian premier said. The chairman of the CIS Executive Committee, Sergei Lebedev, says the next meeting of the heads of governments will take place in Kazakhstan's capital Astana in May 2009. 35 documents are considered at the Council's session as the Economic Development Strategy, documents related to transportation, and measures to enhance the food security of the CIS members states.
