World Bank supports energy renovation of 46 schools in Moldova

A number of 46 schools in Moldova will benefit from energy renovation with financial support from the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD). In this regard, Moldova will receive a loan of US$50 million to which a grant of US$4.5 million is added, IPN reports.

According to the agreement with the IBRD, US$35 million is intended for the energy renovation of 46 schools in different localities of the country, where thermal insulation works will be carried out on walls and roofs. The windows and doors will be replaced, the heating system will be renovated, lighting will be modernized and heat pumps will be installed.

A sum of US$15 million will be used to modernize the centralized heating system of the municipality of Chisinau. Emphasis will be placed on the installation of 350 individual heat points in public institutions in the capital city, and the grant of US$4.5 million will be used for technical assistance and for project implementation activities.

The project "Sustainable Transition Through Energy Efficiency in Moldova", supported by the votes of 58 MPs, was signed on August 8, 2024 and is to be implemented by June 2029.
