World Bank official on visit to Moldova

Sector Director in the World Bank’s Europe and Central Asia region, Cheryl Gray, responsible for implementing policies in the field of economic management and poverty reduction, is on a fact-finding visit to the R. of Moldova. During a meeting with Prime Minister Vasile Tarlev, Mrs. Gray said that the WB noticed positive results registered by the R. of Moldova over the last 5 years, in what concerns economic growth, as well as in the process of implementing the Economic Growth and Poverty Reduction Strategy Paper (EGPRSP), which will be supported further by the WB. The WB official also emphasized the importance of finishing the reform in the management of public finances and the reform of the central public administration. “The R. of Moldova registered some results in improving the process of assigning financial resources, consolidating the treasury system and improving the budget execution procedures”, Mrs. Gray added. According to her, the evolutions registered by the R. of Moldova in the majority of fields open up new co-operation opportunities between the Government and the WB. PM pleaded for increasing the portfolio of investment projects for the development of infrastructure, agricultural sector, water supply in towns and villages, energy, development of small and midsize business etc. In what concerns the Implementation of EGPRSP, Mr. Tarlev mentioned that the implementation of objectives stipulated in the document, represents a priority for the R. of Moldova. The Government uses all its efforts to expand the strategy in order to assure the sustainability of the actions already started, PM said.
