Works at Wastewater Treatment Station much behind schedule

The works at the Chisinau Wastewater Treatment Station executed as part of a contract to the value of €24 million have been 27% carried out, but the execution level at this stage was to be 85%, said mayor of Chisinau Ion Ceban. At the pumping station that was to be put into operation last month, the works represent 5%, IPN reports.

The works are performed by a foreign company. “This wasn’t the best company chosen by those who now make a lot of fuss on TV. They did nothing during 12 years and I will gradually show the severity to which the situation in the municipality of Chisinau was brought by these irresponsible persons,” the mayor stated in the program “Moldova live” on the public TV channel Moldova 1.

According to him, only 10% of the works were actually executed as the 27% include also the procurement procedures. “The works at the pumping station that should actually ensure the functioning of the treatment station have been only 5% executed. But this station should have been put into operation last month,” stated Ion Ceban.

He also said that as he required earlier, a plan for remedying the situation at the Wastewater Treatment Station is to be presented in a week. There are over 500,000 tonnes of mud there and 58,000 of these are in geotubes, while the rest in storerooms. The situation is catastrophic and intervention is needed.

Contacted by IPN, acting director general of SA “Apă-Canal Chisinau” Anatolie Lichii said he will present the action plan and other information about the works and contract in the February 3 meeting of officials of Chisinau services and divisions.
