Employers will be obliged to implement internal measures to prevent and report workplace violence and harassment. Workers will also benefit from extended protection against all forms of violence and discrimination. The provisions are contained in a legislative initiative, IPN reports.
The legislative initiative was presented to Parliament, where the working group on harmonization of national legislation with the provisions of the International Labour Organization (OIM) Convention No. 190 was meeting. The document was ratified by Moldova in December 2023.
The working group, made up of representatives of the Parliament, central public authorities, ministries and civil society, discussed the measures taken to ensure a work environment free from violence and harassment.
A legislative initiative will be tabled to promote a work environment free from violence and harassment, empower employers, extend protection, promote equal opportunities and diversity.
Member of the Parliament Angela Munteanu-Pojoga, member of the Committee on Human Rights and Interethnic Relations, noted the need to amend the legislation in the context of the increasing number of cases of harassment in the workplace.
"The promotion of this draft law is an important step in ensuring a work environment free of violence and harassment, which respects the fundamental rights of all employees in line with international standards," the member of the Parliament said.
The amendments to be made in the legislation stem from the provisions of OIM Convention No. 190, adopted in Geneva in 2019, which addresses the phenomenon of violence and harassment in the world of work, emphasizing the need to protect the fundamental rights of workers and create a safe and respectful working environment.
