The activity of babysitters could be regulated. A bill to this effect was proposed by the Ministry of Labor, Social Protection and Family. The bill stipulates that the babysitters will be able to provide services officially, based on contracts signed with beneficiaries, Minister of Labor Stela Grigoras announced in a public debate staged by the Common Platform for Dialogue of the Women MPs, IPN reports.

The minister noted that this is a bill to supplement the Law on Entrepreneur’s Patent. The adoption of the bill wil enable to overcome a series of risks associated with the work of babysitters in the current conditions in Moldova. The babysitters could be also included in the social insurance system.

The Government will later lay down minimum requirements concerning the professional qualification of babysitters. This will have a direct effect on the quality of care and surveillance of children, including as regards the prevention of situations of risk for the life and health of children or the provision of first aid.

“This is an activity that protects first of all the children and would save many lives,” stated Stela Grigoras. She added that the Ministry of Economy is now reviewing the Law on Entrepreneur’s Patent and is ready to consider the possibility of including the services of babysitters in the list of patent-based activities.

The head of the Association of Women Entrepreneurs of Moldova Olga Melniciuc said one of the conditions for which patent will be issued to babysitters is medical confirmation of the physical and mental state of the babysitters. The carers will also have to confirm the professional qualification. This will lead to the development of a new niche – babysitter training.
