A woman from Causeni faces a fine of 50,000 lei or even imprisonment in a criminal case initiated for electoral corruption. Anticorruption officers and prosecutors on Monday carried out searches, the woman being suspected of offering bribe to make the person vote in favor of a candidate contending in the presidential race, IPN reports.
At present, officers of the National Anticorruption Center are taking special measures to seize the objects of the crime, to identify the origin of the money and possible links of the persons involved with members of organized criminal groups, who act in the interests of particular political parties.
The woman is to be heard as a suspect and investigated in a state of freedom.
Under the law, people who offer money to influence the results of an election risk one year to 5 years in prison and a fine of over 50,000 lei. The person's property can be seized to ensure the caused damage is compensated for. At the same time, those who denounce illegal acts and cooperate with the criminal investigation body can be released from criminal or contraventional liability.
