Without Christmas tree, bazaar and concerts in central Chisinau, PM Ion Chicu

Prime Minister Ion Chicu said there will be staged no Christmas bazaars and concerts in the Great National Assembly Square and there will be set up no Christmas tree in central Chisinau this year. The discussions on the issue were launched several months ago, IPN reports.

“The winter, Christmas holidays start in a month. We’ve thought about them since summer. This year we should not have illusions about the pandemic. That usual scenario with Christmas bazaar will not be applied. We discussed the issue at the State Chancellery and understood that our colleagues discussed the matter with the City Hall too. The City Hall will stage some events in the Cathedral’s square. The Christmas bazaar will not be mounted and the Christmas tree that is usually placed in front of the Government Building will not be set up there,” Premier Chicu stated in the program “Fourth Power” on N4 channel.

The official noted that the traditional tree that was placed and decorated in the heart of Chisinau will be replaced with the trees growing in the Triumphal Arch in the Cathedral’s square, which will be decorated. Those usual celebrations will not be staged this year.

Earlier this March, the World Health Organization declared the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) a public health emergency of international concern. Moldova so far has got 90,912 cases of COVID-19.
