A woman resident of Straseni district who claimed to have magic powers was sentenced to eight years in jail for swindle after she cheated seven persons, promising that she will free them from spells and curses, IPN reports.

The prosecutors in Rezina established that last summer the 46-year-old woman entered the homes of seven families from Rezina and Soldanesti districts, persuading the owners that she has magic powers and can help them get rid of curses. The woman obtained money, goods and golden jewels to the value of over 91,000 lei from them. The court ordered that she pay back this money as damages to the victims.

This is not the first case that this alleged ‘witch’ is held accountable for swindle. The court banned her from practicing nontraditional medicine and psychology for a five-year period. The sentence is not yet definitive.
