Which MPs missed most of the sittings?
The Communist lawmakers were absent from the largest number of the legislature’s sittings of the autumn-winter session. They accumulated 77 absences, 68 of which unfounded, shows a study made by the Institute for Development and Special Initiative (IDIS) “Viitorul”, Info-Prim Neo reports.
According to IDIS expert Veaceslav Berbeca, the number of unjustified absences of the Communist MPs decreased compared with the previous session, when the Communists had 522 absences.
“The Communist Party did not resort to boycotting the plenary sittings in September-December. That’s why the difference in the number of absences is so great. The lawmakers of the ruling alliance had a good attendance. Thus, the legislative body’s work wasn’t paralyzed because of the absence of quorum when the Communist MPs left the meetings,” said the expert
The study says the Liberal-Democratic MPs had eight unfounded absences and 40 justified absences, the Democratic lawmakers had five unjustified absences and four justified absences, while the Liberal MPs had only 12 justified absences.
“The attitude of the Liberal MPs towards the plenary meetings in the autumn-winter session was exemplary. It should be noted that namely the Liberal lawmakers proposed penalizing the MPs who miss the sittings without reason,” said Veaceslav Berbeca.
In the monitored period, there were held 24 plenary sittings of the 28 planned owing to the break asked for by the MPs in November to hold negotiations on the election of the candidate for the presidency.
