The citizens who leave the country should be connected to the sociopolitical life in Moldova. They are not deserters, traitors or fugitives, as some say. They were driven away by poverty and the living conditions, said former MP Constantin Oboroc, ex-deputy prime minister, who responded to a civic group’s call to run independently for President.
In a news conference at IPN, Constantin Oboroc said all the citizens who went abroad should be offered the possibility of renewing the expired identification papers free of charge. Each Moldovan should be informed about the possibility of voting and should be offered conditions for exercising the right to vote. “We will not allow such an attitude to the diaspora, similar to that shown by the incumbent President. On July 9 or 10, the President said that we have pandemic conditions and voting abroad is problematic. But he has no right to make such assertions. Before this, he should inform the people what he did as the Head of State,” said Constantin Oboroc, who served as an adviser to Moldova’s first President.
According to him, by informing public opinion that the vote abroad is problematic, he shows an irresponsible attitude to the constitutional obligations of President. “Moreover, it is a criminal attitude to the own people. How does it happen that you do not even want to talk about postal voting? There is electronic voting, but this will not be implemented soon as there is not guarantee that this method is safe. But postal voting is used in the European states.”
Constantin Oboroc noted legislative amendments concerning the activity of parties should be made. Within three months, all the parties should be reregistered and the votes of members when electing the administrative bodies of parties should be secret, while the event should be public, with the access of the press. This way the gate before dishonest politicians will be closed and the political class will be reformed. “There will be another state of spirits inside political parties. The people will be free to talk and to submit proposals. They will not be afraid to anger the party leader. We will not have the situation when two shrewd party leaders clash and we watch.”
According to the ex-MP, a change is also needed at the National Anticorruption Center as the fight against corruption is a highly debated issue, but no palpable results in this fight are achieved. “This institution does not achieve results because it was subordinate to the President of the Republic and to the Government and is now controlled by Parliament,” stated Constantin Oboroc. He added this institution should be reorganized and should not be subordinate to only one institution, while the center’s administration should be elected by the general assembly of the state powers that will be constituted by the legislative, executive and judicial powers.
