Wharf-like border crossing point resumes work, two points remain closed

The wharf-like border crossing point “Soroca” (interstate) resumed work after it was closed on December 15, together with the similar points “Vasilcau” and “Cosauti”, following the rise in the level of water in the Nistru River, IPN reports.

The Border Police said the water level in the Nistru in the northern part is by 1.5 meters higher than the norm.

Specialists of “Moldova’s Water” Agency explained that the level of water in the Nistru increased as a result of larger discharges from the Novodnistrovsk accumulation lake in Ukraine following the recent heavy rain in the Carpathians. The authorities assured there are no risks of floods and the volume of discharges has decreased.
