Effective from Monday, August 16, a new weather alert system will be in place to warn about weather hazards. The State Hydrometeorology Service will use four colors – green, yellow, orange and red – to code the magnitude of its alerts, Info-Prim Neo reports. “The current weather alert system will be adjusted to European requirements in order to ensure international quality standards in the field of alert information”, said chief weatherman Ilie Boian. The new system will code the weather by intensity, coverage, risks and potential damage. If some parts of the Moldova's map will be depicted in green, it will mean that no weather hazards are expected there. Yellow parts indicate potentially dangerous weather, like heavy showers, electrical discharges, high winds, abnormally low or high temperatures, rises in river levels. Orange will indicate greater threats, like storms, abundant rainfall with hail, heat waves, cold waves, which can cause damage or even loss of human lives. Red will automatically mean a state of emergency. The new alert system will be reflected on the Service's website at www.meteo.md. The posted forecasts will cover three days, with colors and other information explained in captions. Specific recommendations, like 'increase water intake' or 'avoid scorching sun', will also be posted when needed. The new code-colored map will be available on the website starting from August 16.
