The Ministry of the Interior this year has established much more solid cooperation relations with the development partners that provided assistance in the reformation process and in developing and improving the services provided by the police, Minister of the Interior Alexandru Jizdan stated in an interview for the portal curentul.md, quoted by IPN.

“2016 was a not at all easy year, not only for the Ministry of the Interior, but for the whole society, but we nevertheless managed to strengthen the capacities of the Ministry in the areas of resources and infrastructure. Developing the conception of community police, which was borrowed from the states with consolidated democracies is one of the major expected results. This will fully change the population’s perception of the system of internal affairs,” stated the official.

In another connection, Alexandru Jizdan said the salaries paid to employees of the Ministry of the Interior are modest and a part of the costs can be covered by providing them with dwellings. To solve this problem, they make effort to obtain the conversion of a plot managed by the Ministry so that apartment buildings for the Ministry’s employees could be erected on this. They project that the building works will start at the beginning of next year.

As regards the outfitting of the police, the official said the cooperation with the development partners is very important and the Ministry of the Interior benefitted from many donations as a result of this. In the course of this year, all the subdivisions of the Ministry benefitted from modern technical equipment, new cars and other important device obtained with the assistance of the Government and the EU.

Speaking about the problem of system corruption, Alexandru Jizdan said the police development strategy envisions that the police will be remunerated appropriately so that they do not accept bribe and the level of corruption is constantly reduced.

The minister voiced hope that next year the Ministry’s subdivisions will continue to be modernized so that the provided services meet the needs of society, while the police development strategy will contribute to making the profession of police officer more attractive. Another objective is to develop the joint project of the Ministry of the Interior and the Ministry of Health SMURD so as to make this emergency medical service nationwide.
