We can witness a raider attack on Liberal faction, political commentator

A raider attack on the Liberal faction can be witnessed in the April 18 sitting of Parliament, considers political commentator Alexandru Cauia. He said that it is for the first time in Moldova that seven MPs may eliminate five MPs from the faction, including the party’s leader. Cauia has told IPN that, de facto, the Liberal faction composed of seven MPs can exist without the party’s support.

“It depends on the morality and decency of these lawmakers. It would be at least paradoxical for seven of the 12 members of the faction to take decisions running counter to the will of the party on whose lists they entered Parliament,” he stated.

According to Alexandru Caiua, it is the factions that discuss with the Prime Minister designate, not the parties. It’s said nowhere that the faction must vote unanimously. But, at least when a censure motion is to be voted or when a vote of confidence is to be given to the Government, the decision must be taken based on the decision of the party’s Political Bureau, Congress or National Council. The solution is for the 12 Liberal MPs to come to terms and have a common position.

The Liberal faction split after seven MPs and other heavyweights of the Liberal Party created the Council for Reforming the PL, demanding replacing Mihai Ghimpu with Dorin Chirtoaca as party leader and returning to the negotiations on the formation of the new Government. The next day, the party’s National Council excluded five MPs from the party. Another lawmaker of the seven, Valeriu Saharneanu, wasn’t a party member. As to Vadim Cojocaru, Mihai Ghimpu said he was ready to forgive him if he admits that he made a mistake.
