WB will offer Moldova $8-10m in support to overcome drought effects
The World Bank (WB) will offer Moldova 8-10 million US dollars in financial aid to alleviate the consequences of drought. The announcement was made by WB Country Manager for Moldova Melanie Marlett during a meeting with Prime Minister Vasile Tarlev.
Melanie Marlett pointed out that in order to ensure a speedy disbursal and define the optimal way of using the funds a group of experts is currently in Moldova, providing the necessary assistance.
At the meeting, the collocutors discussed present aspects of cooperation as well as future opportunities for cooperation between the Government and the Bank. The impact of this year’s drought on the agricultural sector formed the key part of the discussion.
Vasile Tarlev pointed out that the relevant governmental institutions will provide full support in finding an efficient and transparent mechanism for using the allocated funds.
