The State Hydrometeorology Service issued an orange code advisory for high temperatures for the period between August 10 and 12. The yellow code warning for drought, issued last week, lasts until August 10 inclusive, IPN reports.
On August 10 – 12, daytime temperatures will rise to 35 degrees Celsius, while in southern Moldova – even to 37 degrees Celsius. Owing to the lack of precipitation and the high evaporation degree, the rivers and ponds in Moldova are short of water.
There will be no rain in the period.
In connection with the warning issued by the State Hydrometeorology Service, the Ministry of Health recommends avoiding prolonged exposure to the sun between 11am and 6pm, setting the air conditioner at a temperature that is by 5 degrees lower than the temperature inside, and drinking daily at least two liters of liquid, but not alcohol, as this favors dehydration.
The elderly people, children and persons with disabilities should be provided increased attention in the period and should be regularly offered water, even if they do not ask for it. Walking with children under one during dog days is not recommended. Swimming in cold water is banned.
The persons suffering from chronic cardiovascular, hepatic, renal, pulmonary, mental diseases and with hypertension should see the family doctor to have their therapeutic treatment adjusted to the existing conditions.
