Voter turnout at presidential election passes 19%, higher than in 2020

In the 2024 presidential election, the voters are more active compared to the election held four years ago. According to CEC data, by 12:00 noon, about 540,000 voters went to the polls, which is over 19.2 percent of the total number of citizens put on electoral rolls. In the 2020 presidential elections, the turnover at 12:00 noon was 16%, IPN reports.

The data of the Central Election Commission indicate a voter turnout of 17.6% in the municipality of Chisinau. In Balti municipality, the participation rate exceeds 17.6%, and in Cahul municipality it is close to 16.3%. In ATU Gagauzia, , the voter turnout at 12:00 was 18.3%.

The ratio of women to men among voters at country level was 52.6% to 47.4%.

Data about the turnout at the presidential election is presented in real time, but the figures on voters’ participation in the referendum are posted separately, based on information collected from polling stations.

The national constitutional referendum of October 20 will be validated if at least a third of the voters put on electoral rolls – about 940,000 voters – go to the polls. At the same time, the law will be considered adopted if the majority of electors at the referendum vote “Yes” to question “Are you for amending the Constitution for enshrining the Republic of Moldova’s accession to the European Union in it?”.
