Vote recount changes nothing in CMC
The results of a vote recount held on Thursday, June 30, left things as they are in the Chisinau City Council, with each faction retaining the same number of seats, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The recount, however, produced minor changes in the number of votes collected: 97 votes were subtracted from the Communist Party and 62 votes from the Liberal Party; the Liberal-Democrats gained an additional of 85 votes and the Democrats plus 25 votes.
In the Council the situation remains unchanged: 26 seats for the Communists and a total of 25 for the component parties of the Eurointegration Alliance, specifically 17 for the Liberals, 7 for the Lib-Dems and 1 for the Democrats.
The recount started on Thursday morning in all 300 polling stations in the municipality and was finished at 5:00pm. Three hours later the results were ready. The effort will cost the state budget around 1.3 million lei in remuneration for the counters.
The recount was held at the request of the Liberals, who in case of an addition of over 300 votes would have gained one more seat in the Council and thus swing the balance if favor of the Alliance parties.
