Voronin and Smirnov meet in Tiraspol
President Vladimir Voronin and Tiraspol leader Igor Smirnov have met in Tiraspol on Wednesday, December 24. The meeting started at 11.00, at the Children's Palace from Tiraspol and was going on at noon.
Grigori Volovoi, the president of a foundation defending human rights in Transnistria, has told Info-Prim Neo the Transnistrian side invited the journalists to attend the meeting of the two leaders. Grigori Volovoi opines Voronin and Smirnov are discussing on resuming the dialogue between the parties.
The two are expected to make statements for the media not attending the event on its closure.
Last week, President Voronin stated he would present Smirnov a draft law on Transnistria's status within Moldova. According to the Russian agency RIA Novosti, also the Tiraspol leader is waiting for the reaction of the Moldovan President concerning a draft accord of friendship and cooperation between Moldova and Transnistria, that he gave Vladimir Voronin in April.
It's a second meeting in 2008 between Voronin and Smirnov, as the first took place on April 11 in Bender, after a 7-year halt.
