Volume of freight transported by specialized Moldovan enterprises has increased
The rail, road, fluvial and air companies over January-August 2007 transported goods worth about 10.7 mln tonnes or by approximately 1 mln tonnes or 11.1% more compared with the corresponding period last year.
The distance covered by the goods fell by 471.1 mln tonne-km (13.3%) compared with January-August 2006 owing to the 23.6% decrease in the distance covered by the railway freight.
About 7.6 mln tonnes in the first eight months of this year were transported by trains, an 8% increase compared with January-August 2006. The construction materials and cement made up 42.3% of the goods loaded into freight cars at stations in Moldova, the ferrous metals -24.7%, the grains and bakery products – 9.7%.
The road transport enterprises conveyed 2.9 mln tonnes of commodities or by 18.7 % more on January-August 2006. The private companies transported 84.1% of these.
Roughly 115,100 tonnes of freight were transported by fluvial ships. This is by 47.8% more than last year.
The aircraft over January-August 2008 conveyed 0,640 tonnes of merchandise or by 8.5% more on last year, the same period.
